On Saturday 26th February, 23 children competed in the British Modern Biathlon National Championships held at the GB Pentathlon based at Bath University. The children had prequalified for the biathlon by an event run by St Piran’s through Pentathlon GB where we swam at Eton College’s pool and ran on the nearby Thames Valley Athletics track. To train for the event many pupils attend early morning running and swimming club before school.

It was a wonderful experience to have children competing for ages U9-U12 both girls and boys with children from Year 3 to Year 6. We raced against athletes from different schools and clubs across the country. All children race individually and the highest three scorers from any team add up to create a team. We had 4 teams finish with bronze medals: the U9 girls ( Maisie, Scarlett and Georgia) , the U9 boys (Theo, Jago and James ), the U10 girls (Alice, Reina and Maisie )and the U10 boys ( Jace, William and Harrison). We had many PB’s in both running and swimming and many individuals placing high individually with Scarlett placing fourth overall and Georgia placing 6th overall nationally in the U9’s. Meanwhile Theo (U9) placed 1st overall for his swim. Maisie placed 4th overall and William placed 6th overall in the U10’s and Jacob 5th in the U11’s and Joshua Greenough placing 5th in the U12’s. Well done to all the individuals and our medalists. St Piran’s is very proud of you all.
